Owner Tom Ruffner was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, with the innate, industrious drive that ultimately led him to open Shamrock Plastics in 1989 in Mount Vernon, Ohio..

The entrepreneur, however, wasn’t a stranger to the plastics industry. Before opening Shamrock Plastics, Tom learned the ropes of the field out of high school and before graduating from ITT Technical College. He worked his way up from his first job peeling the backing off plastic sheets at age 19 to production manager to entrepreneur. Shamrock’s humble beginnings were in a small 10-by-20-foot storage space, with business drummed up by going door to door.
